Description:

Chives, or Allium schoenoprasum, are herbaceous perennial plants belonging to the Alliaceae family. They hold significant gastronomic value and are a variety of onion without bulbs, with an aroma reminiscent of garlic or onion.

Planting Season:

In colder climates, chives are typically planted from February to May and from August to November. In warmer regions, the planting window extends from January to May and from August to December.

Soil Preparation:

The soil for chives should be fertile. Plant them with approximately 3 cm spacing between plants and around 20 cm between rows.

Watering:

Initially, daily watering is recommended after planting, followed by watering every 10 to 15 days, while avoiding waterlogging to prevent rot.

Care and Pruning:

When the foliage appears unsightly, it can be trimmed almost to the ground, encouraging the growth of new shoots. This practice ensures continuous harvesting throughout a long season.
