Nandina domestica  is a shrub that belongs to the family of the berberidaceaes

Its lanceolate leaves change their colour from green to the coppery red, appearing all at the same time on the plant, in addition to its small white flowers in the shape of panicles, and its red berries, which persist for a long period on the shrub, making  this plant to be interesting during all the year.

Needs rich and moist soil with good drainage, and a sunny or partial shade position.

Prune at the beginning of spring to clean or the shape the plant, although it not always necesary as it growns in a graceful shape.

We can use nandina domestica in groups or for hedges, like specimen or  in pots.

There are different varieties of nandina which differs in the colour or more rounded type of leaves.

For example Nandina domestica "fire power" or "obssesion" are more red while "lemon lime" has a more green-yellow colour.
