Muelhembeckia or wire vine is a climbing plant that originated in the southern hemisphere.

It is a herbaceous climbing plant or creeping semi-perennial of stems sarmentose and purple that can reach a length of 5 meters.

It has abundant small, rounded leaves that are a nice bright green color.

It gives some flowers of yellowish white color but they are very small to have ornamental interest. It usually flowers during the second half of the summer.

As it is a fast growing plant it is normally used as a ground cover, also as a climbing plant to cover walls and pergolas and in pots.

Their resistance to wind and salinity makes them very suitable for gardens near the coast.

This plant likes to be exposed to full sun although it can thrive in semi-shade.

It resists frosts of up to -10 ºC although they can lose the leaves with the cold, these will return to sprout in spring.

It likes well-drained soils, can survive in those that are poor and sandy but ideally contain organic matter.

It is a plant that appreciates continuous watering, especially in summer, without becoming waterlogged. It can stand a few days without watering.

It should be fertilized in early spring with organic matter such as compost or manure.

The best time to prune it is at the end of winter, so we can control its growth, as it tends to be invasive.

It is a resistant plant that is not usually attacked by diseases and pests.

For its multiplication, we can sow seeds in spring.
