The Esparraguera Plumosa, whose scientific name is Asparagus setaceus, is a plant native to South Africa and is characterised by its highly branched stems, with acicular leaves that are located on the same plane as the lateral branches, which is what gives it the appearance of a fern frond.

Asparagus setaceus is one of the plants originating from South Africa that is best adapted to living inside homes. It has very fine stems that give it a very decorative, feathery appearance, to the point that many might think that it is actually a fern.

In flower shops it is used a lot as a filling for bouquets, but at home you can have it in a pot as a centrepiece.

Location:

It likes very luminous rooms.

Flowering:

The flowers, which sprout in summer, measure 0.4cm and are whitish in colour. They are not very showy.

The fruit is a green berry that turns black when ripe. It is very toxic and should not be eaten, be careful with children and pets.

Watering:

During the summer it should be watered very frequently, three or four times a week; the rest of the year the frequency should be reduced

Pruning:

Dry branches should be removed, and those that have grown too much should be trimmed.

Fertilizer and soil:

The type of soil is not demanding, but it is advisable that it has good drainage.

The best time to fertilize it is during spring and summer; it should be fertilized with a universal fertilizer for green plants.

Diseases:

This plant can be affected by aphids, red spider mite, and cotton mealybug.
