Name:

Calla Lily (Zantedeschia sp.)

Origin:

The Calla Lily is a tropical plant from the Araceae family, native to South Africa.

Description:

The Calla Lily is an extraordinary flower available in a variety of colors. It grows from rhizomes and is ideal for use in beds, borders, and pots both outdoors and indoors. Callas prefer loose, well-draining soil and thrive in areas with full sun or partial shade in warmer climates. They are typically planted in spring at a depth of about 10 cm and spaced about 30 cm apart. During the growing season, they need to be watered regularly and fertilized monthly. After flowering, they require a period of dormancy, during which watering is reduced to allow the plant to rest. In cooler climates, rhizomes are unearthed in autumn and stored in a cool, dry place until spring. Callas can also be divided during their dormant period.

Care:

Calla Lilies are easy to care for and require minimal maintenance. Keep them regularly watered during the growing season and provide monthly fertilizer. After flowering, reduce watering to allow the plant to rest. In cooler climates, unearth rhizomes in autumn and store them in a cool, dry place until spring. Callas can also be divided during their dormant period.

Watering:

During the growing season, keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering after flowering to allow the plant to rest. In cooler climates, unearth rhizomes in autumn and allow them to dry before storing them until spring.

Pruning:

Regular pruning is not required for Calla Lilies. However, you can remove wilted leaves and flowers as needed to keep the plant tidy and encourage new growth.
