Fast-growing Mazus reptans (creeping Mazus) is a semi-evergreen perennial that forms an attractive carpet of narrow, sparsely toothed, bright green leaves, 2.5 cm long.

The foliage remains fresh throughout the growing season and well into autumn. In late spring and early summer, the foliage is dotted with hundreds of purplish-blue tubular flowers with yellow and white markings, borne in small clusters.

Vigorous, creeping Mazus spreads rapidly through rooted stems. It tolerates foot traffic and can be used as a small-scale ground cover or grass substitute, in rock gardens or between steps. It is evergreen in mild winter areas.

It grows up to 5 cm high and 15-30 cm wide.

It is a lover of full to partial shade, and is best grown in medium to moist, well-drained soils.

Creeping Mazus is a great ground cover for shady areas in wooded gardens and is perfect for planting under shrubs or in borders.

It is virtually pest and disease free.

Native to the Himalayas.
