Coprosma repens belongs to the Rubiaceae family, which consists of almost 200 species of shrubs and small trees. Coprosma repens is native to New Zealand.

It is also known by the common names of Mirror plant, Coprosma and Brillantísima.

They are fast-growing shrubs and can reach a height of more than 5 metres, although specimens of between 1 and 2 metres are usually grown and can be pruned.

They are very interesting plants because of their shiny, thick, oval-shaped leaves. These dioecious plants, there are male and female specimens, produce small white flowers that are not very decorative, although the female plants give orange fruits that are decorative, both male and female plants are needed to produce fruit.

It is a plant that is often used for hedges, hedging groups and even in pots on terraces. They are ideal for gardens by the sea.

It likes full sun, especially in its variegated forms, although it can also live in semi-shade but will not shine as brightly. They can withstand sporadic frosts down to -5 ºC.

Although it can thrive even in calcareous soils, it prefers light, fertile soils containing organic matter. Transplanting is best done in the spring season.

It should be watered moderately, bearing in mind that it is very drought resistant; wait for the soil to dry out well between watering.

It is a plant that is very grateful for pruning.

It is a plant that is not usually attacked by the most common pests and diseases in gardens, very resistant.

It can be propagated from cuttings at the end of winter.
