Aeonium arboreum is the most well-known species among all Aeoniums. It belongs to the non-native Crassulaceae family.

Origin:

Native to the Canary Islands, this plant has spread to many regions with temperate and warm climates worldwide due to its popularity as an ornamental plant.

Description:

This species exhibits a tree-like form with fleshy, branched stems culminating in a terminal rosette, making it highly decorative. Some varieties feature rosettes of black color, adding an extra allure to its appearance.

History:

Aeonium arboreum has been cultivated for centuries for its ornamental beauty and ease of cultivation in suitable climates. Its history traces back to ancient civilizations inhabiting the Canary Islands, where this plant was valued for its exotic look.

Care:

It is recommended to transplant it every year in spring using a special mix of soil for cacti, readily available in garden centers. This soil can be supplemented with some sand to improve drainage.

Watering:

During spring and summer, regular watering is important. Care should be taken not to overwater, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot issues. In addition to water, a nutrient mix containing phosphorus, potassium, iron, manganese, copper, zinc, boron, and molybdenum can be added to the watering to maintain healthy growth.

Pruning:

Unlike some other plants, Aeoniums do not require regular pruning. Simply removing damaged parts is sufficient to prevent disease spread. This selective removal of damaged parts is enough to keep the plant in good condition.

Curiosity:

An interesting fact about Aeonium arboreum is its ability to survive in prolonged drought conditions due to its capacity to store water in its fleshy tissues. This adaptation allows it to thrive in arid and semi-arid environments, making it a popular choice for xeriscaping and low-maintenance landscaping.
