Calamansi or X Citrofortunella mitis is a shrub or tree, born from the crossing of two citrus: "Citrus reticulata ' - Mandarin - and" Fortunella margarita "-kumquat.
It is a perennial a plant that usually does not exceed 6 meters  height.
What makes it interesting is that its small oranges remain for a long time in the tree.
Fruit:
A kind os small round orange of 2-5cms which appears from autumn to summer and which stays long periods on the tree.
Do not overwater it, but add a bit more of water during the summer when fruits are gaining weight.
This fruit is edible, both the flesh and the peel.
Also recommended to water our plant with special citrus fertilizer.
After the fruits have finnished and before the new blooming is the best time to prune calamansi. Shape the tree the way that you like, and get rid of the weakest and broken branches.
If the tree is very lushy take off  some of the branches to make the air circulate properly through the tree. This way we will contribute to keep away fungus and pests.
Calamansi can suffer from citrus leafminer
This is a minuscule insect which excavate galleries inside the leaves. Can be detected due to the tracings of the furrows they make, and that causes the leaves to wrinkle.
In addition it might be attacked by others common garden pests such as scales, aphids, mites, etc, therefore it is important as well to clean with water to pressure.
