Christmas Cactus is an epiphyte succulent plant belonging to the cactaceaes family.
It is not really a cactus but a succulent plant that accumulates water in its special fleshy leaves which tend to hang.
It is very long and very easy to grow and its flowers are really wonderful.
When the days begin to be shorter it will begin to sprout new buttons, and depending on the genre they will open sooner or later.
It needs loose soil, even based on leaf litter and bark, which provide good drainage.
Christmas Cactus thrives with much light or partial shade, but not direct sunlight, since it can burn its leaves.
There are several genera, such as for example:
Schlumbergera Bridgesii , or Zygocactus Truncates.
Schumberger Gaertneri , or Ripsalidopsis Gaertneri.
Schlumbergera Truncata, or Zygocatus Truncatus.
And a lot of varieties that are usually determined by the color of its flowers.
We can cut a piece of the stems and sow it something like 1/4 of the same in a sandy soil and moist for getting new plants. And avoid that the soil to gets dry.
Consulted sources in addition to our experience with this plant:
- Christmas cactus
- 20-35 cm
- Green, red and pink flowers
- Moderated, although the ground must be humid without flooding.
- Can't resist low temperatures
- Being the product a living plant and depending on the season, this plant could be received, in some cases, not exactly the same as in the photography, but as similar as possible, without impacting on quality of the same.
