Rose bay - Nerium oleander. Mix C14

Nerium Oleander or Mediterranean Rose Bay is an evergreen shrub on the apocynaceae family.

It is a tough plant, which offers high tolerance to drought or wind, but not to frost, and  is not demanding of high maintenance, all this makes of nerium oleander or rose bay to be a plant widely cultivated.

All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, and might cause skin irritation, so better to locate it in places not too closed to our houses.

Nerium oleander or Medieterranean rose bay does not need too rich soils, but yes a good drainage system to thrive, although it will always respond better if each year we add a layer of organic matter or a good substrate.

Prunning is better to be carried out by the end of winter to keep the plant with a nice shape, even we can prune heavily to provide  strength and vigor.

Do not prune later than by the end of the winter,  as there is risk  of having less flowering the following spring- summer.

Use a special fertilizer for shrubs of flowers.

Watch it ocassionaly  as it can suffer from red spider mites, scale insects or mealy bugs, also it might suffer from deseases, mainly in the case of overwatering.

These pests or deseases can be erradicated with the appropiated products for each case, and of course by keeping rose bay plant healthy and strong.
