Crassula portulacea, Crassula ovata, or Jade plant or Cotyledon lutea is one of the most well known succulent plant.

Its shruby shape makes of this plant a good one for the achievement of small -medium hedges.

Crassula portulacea is a succulent plant with fleshy leaves and branches belonging to the family of the crassulaceaes.

The interest of this plant lies in its strength, is very tough, and also its nice form, its trunk is branched, becoming a rounded shrub, in addition of being a fairly long-lived plant.

Its oval leaves are fleshy, bright green and reddish edges.

It endures high temperatures and drought periods since its leaves, its trunk or roots store a large amount of liquids.

Use a special cactus and succulents substrate  or an universal one with a good system of drainage, and water only when the soil is dry, to prevent the risk of rot.

It is better, to water spaced and intense, than few and frequent. In winter is better not to water or to water very little, especially when the temperature is low, if it has been well cared and hydrated during the spring and summer  it will have enugh resources 

Fertilizing is not necessary, though a layer of enriched soil each spring will provide new nutrients.

It can be attacked by insects.

It is very easy to reproduce, as its stems can be planted directly on a soft and well drained soils, or even its leaves.

Height It can go so far as to turn into shrubs of up to 3.00mtrs, but in a flowerpot it usually has 1.00-1.50 mtrs. aprox.
Color Glossy green leaves with reddish edges.
Flowering The flowers appear during the winter forming rounded bunches of tiny flowers in the form of stars, in a pale pink colour.
Location Direct sunlight of partial shade.
Irrigation Moderated to few water. Good drinks of water but spaced in time.
Applications This plant is quite versatile, we can use it as an interior plant as long as it has a lot of luminosity, on terraces, balconies on rooftops, and to form even screens and hedges.
Others It is a plant that thrives in warm climates, although it can withstand short periods of temperatures of around 1ºC, it is better to shelter it during the colder months.
