The Gazania is a carpet or covers floors, which is covered with colorful flowers similar to daisies. Very used in warm clímas and close to the sea.

Gazania is an herbaceaus plant on the asteraceaes family, which, can be annual or perennial.
-Annual: "Gazania x Hybrida" which grows up to approximately 25cms and the same width.
Flashy flowers of strong colours: pinks, yellows, reddish, striped... They go up from the foliage level.
It is cultivated from seeds, and it usually lasts only one season, colour of the flowers can be different from one year to other.
From spring to mid summer.
-Evergreen: "Gazania Rigens" approximately 25cms high and 70cms long.
Smaller flowers, yellow, orange or cream and the flowers flush the bush.
Resistant to short periods of frosts.
Good to trim the plant after the winter to rejuvenate it and give a balance shape.
Both of these groups are used as ground covers, although Gazania Rigens will cover more.
Gazania is a very tough plant in warm and high temperature climates. Even we can use it in coastal areas as resists certain grade of salinity.
It is not demanding on rich or fertilised soil, but absolutely need a good drainage as it does not thrive in soggy soils.
To obtain a longer period of flowering, we can head off its wilted flowers.
Gazania will closed flowers when dull weather or no sun.
