Origin and Description:

Osteospermum, also known as Dimorphotheca, is a semi-perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the aster family. This lovely daisy gifts us with a burst of color during spring, although in very hot climates, its flowering may diminish in summer. However, a light trim can encourage it to re-emerge strongly in autumn.

Care and Requirements:

It's not demanding regarding soil type, although its prosperity improves in not necessarily rich soils. When watering, it's preferable to avoid wetting the flowers to prevent fungal growth. Moderate watering is recommended, avoiding waterlogging, and watering when the soil begins to dry.

Tolerance and Adaptability:

Osteospermum doesn't tolerate prolonged low temperatures well but adapts well to coastal areas and shows notable resistance to periods of drought.

Extra Care to Stimulate its Flowering:

During spring, fertilization with potassium-rich fertilizer can stimulate its flowering. Removing wilted flowers and branches is also beneficial for its healthy development.

Pruning to Maintain its Vitality:

A proper pruning at the end of winter will give new energy to the plant for the upcoming season. It's also possible to prune after flowering in autumn to maintain an aesthetic appearance during winter.
