Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Goldcrest’, commonly known as Goldcrest Cypress or Lemon Cypress, is an evergreen conifer with a naturally narrow, upright growth habit and striking yellow-green foliage. Its soft, aromatic leaves release a refreshing lemon scent when touched. Fast-growing and compact, it’s ideal for both garden beds and decorative containers.

History

Originally from the coast of California, this cultivated variety became popular for its bright golden foliage and pleasant citrus fragrance. It’s widely used in ornamental gardening and even in interior decor, especially during the holiday season.

Care

• Light: Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Indoors, place it near a bright window with plenty of natural light.

• Temperature: Hardy to light frost, but not suitable for areas with harsh winters. In cold regions, it’s best grown in pots so it can be protected during winter.

• Soil: Well-drained, fresh, and slightly acidic soil. Avoid waterlogged conditions.

• Pests and diseases: Generally resilient, but it can be affected by spider mites or scale insects in low light or poorly ventilated areas.

Watering

Water regularly, allowing the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. In hot weather or if grown in a pot, it will need more frequent watering. Be careful to avoid overwatering.

Pruning
