Philodendron "Congo apple"

Philodendron ‘Congo Apple’

Description
The Philodendron ‘Congo Apple’ is a tropical indoor plant with large, glossy, bright lime-green leaves that bring freshness and light to any room. Its compact, upright growth makes it an ideal choice for modern interiors. Unlike climbing philodendrons, this variety grows in a tidy rosette shape, with sturdy, decorative leaves that create a lush appearance.

Origin and history
Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, the Philodendron genus belongs to the Araceae family. The ‘Congo Apple’ variety was developed by expert growers as a hardier, more compact plant suited for indoor spaces. Since its introduction to Europe, it has become a favorite among plant enthusiasts for its vivid color and adaptability.

Curiosity
The Philodendron ‘Congo Apple’ is known for its unique leaf color — a bright, almost luminous green that deepens under bright, indirect light. It’s also one of the best philodendrons for improving indoor air quality by filtering toxins naturally.

Watering
Water moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry between waterings. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. During summer, water about twice a week, and reduce frequency in winter.

Pruning
Minimal pruning is needed. Remove dry or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy and attractive. If it becomes too large, it can be divided carefully in spring.

Care
Place your Philodendron ‘Congo Apple’ in a bright spot with filtered light, away from direct sunlight. It thrives in warm, humid conditions between 18 and 28 °C. Wipe its leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to maintain their natural shine. Use a rich, well-draining potting mix.
