Echeveria neon Breakers

Description  

Echeveria Neon Breakers is a succulent plant belonging to the Crassulaceae family. Its main appeal lies in its compact rosette shape, featuring leaves with a mix of green, purple, and pink edges that glow under proper lighting. The serrated edges add a unique touch. It can grow up to 10-15 cm in diameter and produces flower stalks with small pink and yellow blooms.

Origin and history  

This variety is a hybrid developed from species of the Echeveria genus, originally from Mexico. Echeverias have been valued for centuries for their aesthetic and resilience. Neon Breakers is a modern cultivar created for ornamental use, highly appreciated by collectors and succulent enthusiasts.

Care  

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight but should be protected from intense sunlight for prolonged periods.  

Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as mixes for cacti and succulents.  

Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures and should be protected from frost. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 10 °C.  

Humidity: Needs dry, well-ventilated environments to prevent root and leaf rot.  

Watering  

Water only when the soil is completely dry. In summer, it usually needs watering every 7-10 days, while in winter, watering can be reduced to once a month or less. Always water the soil directly, avoiding wetting the leaves to prevent fungal infections.

Pruning  

While not essential, pruning can help remove dry or damaged leaves, maintain its shape, and promote healthy growth. After flowering, it’s recommended to cut the flower stalks. Healthy removed leaves can be used for propagation.

Curiosities  

The pink edges of the leaves become more vibrant with sunlight, giving it a dynamic character that changes with environmental conditions.
