Description
Haworthia arachnoidea is a succulent plant belonging to the Asphodelaceae family. Its name comes from the appearance of its leaves, covered in tiny filament-like structures resembling a spider web. It forms compact rosettes of pointed, fleshy leaves in dark green tones with slightly translucent edges. The plant grows between 5 and 15 cm in diameter and occasionally produces small white or greenish flowers on tall stems.
Origin and History
Native to South Africa, this succulent thrives in arid, rocky regions. It has adapted to survive extreme drought conditions by storing water in its fleshy leaves. Its unique appearance and hardiness have made it a favorite among succulent collectors and enthusiasts.
Care
Light: Requires bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight but should be protected from prolonged exposure to avoid leaf burns.
Soil: Prefers well-draining soil, such as a mix designed for cacti and succulents.
Temperature: Thrives in warm, dry climates but does not tolerate temperatures below 5 °C (41 °F).
Humidity: Should be kept in dry, well-ventilated environments to prevent rot.
Watering
Water only when the soil is completely dry. During spring and summer, water moderately every 2-3 weeks. In autumn and winter, reduce watering to once a month or less. Avoid letting water collect in the center of the rosette, as this can lead to rot.
Pruning
Pruning is not necessary, but you can remove dry or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy. Offshoots that grow around the mother plant can also be separated and propagated.
