Description

Haworthia venosa is a compact and attractive succulent plant, characterized by its fleshy, triangular, and deep green leaves. These leaves often feature translucent lines or markings, giving them a unique and ornamental appearance. The plant grows in small rosettes, making it perfect for small spaces like windowsills or tables.

Origin and History

Native to southern Africa, particularly South Africa and Namibia, this plant belongs to the Asphodelaceae family. The genus Haworthia is named after Adrian Hardy Haworth, a 19th-century British botanist who dedicated much of his life to studying succulents. Its natural habitat includes rocky, arid terrains where it thrives under the shade of larger plants.

 Fun Facts

- Sun Adaptation: Under intense sunlight, its leaves may develop a reddish-brown hue as a protective mechanism.

- Forgetfulness Tolerant: This plant is very resilient and ideal for beginners, as it can withstand irregular watering.

- Decorative Use: Its compact size and geometric design make it a great choice for pots, terrariums, or mini gardens.

Care

- Location: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight daily.

- Soil: Requires well-draining soil, ideally a cactus and succulent mix.

- Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F) and is not frost-tolerant.

- Watering:

  - Spring and summer: Water when the soil is completely dry.

  - Fall and winter: Reduce watering to once a month.

  - Avoid water accumulation on the leaves or base to prevent rot.

Pruning

Regular pruning is not necessary. However, you can remove dry or damaged leaves with sterilized scissors to keep the plant clean and healthy.

With proper care, Haworthia venosa is a long-lasting, low-maintenance plant, perfect for both indoor and protected outdoor settings. Available at Viveros González, an excellent choice for decoration and succulent enthusiasts.
