Description
Pennisetum villosum is a perennial ornamental grass valued for its soft, fluffy, cream-white flower spikes. It has a rounded, light habit, with fine green leaves that gently arch, adding movement and texture to the garden, especially from late summer to autumn when it is in bloom.

Origin
It is native to eastern Africa, mainly Ethiopia and Eritrea, where it grows naturally in open, well-drained areas.

History
Pennisetum villosum began to be used in ornamental gardening thanks to its decorative appearance and its ability to adapt easily to temperate and Mediterranean climates. It has become popular in both private gardens and landscape projects for its natural look and low maintenance needs.

Curiosity
Its extremely soft, cotton-like flower spikes have earned it the common name “feathertop grass” or “cat’s tail grass”. It is often used to create contrast in dry or low-maintenance gardens.

Care
This is a hardy, undemanding plant. It prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Well-drained soil is essential. It adapts very well to Mediterranean gardens and coastal areas.

Watering
Moderate watering. Once established, it tolerates short periods of drought. Regular watering is recommended during the hottest months, always avoiding waterlogging.

Pruning
