Allium schoenoprasum or Chives is a perennial herb of the allium family.

In fact it is a variety of onion, but without bulb, and it has a strong garlic or onion scent.

The time of planting:

In cold climates is from:  February to May  and from August to November.

In warmer areas from:      January to May   and fro   August to December.

Soil must be rich and we must plant it with about 3 cm. of separation between them and 20 cm. approx. between rows

At the beginning of the planting we will water every day and then every 10 or 15 days, avoiding the flooding so do not rot.

Remove the weeds often and prune after flowering or simple remove wilted flowers.

When it is ugly it is possible to cut it back almost to the bottom and new stems will sprout again, so we will be able to enjoy this plant during a long period.
