Origin and Background
Native to the Mediterranean region, particularly the Balearic Islands, Corsica, Sardinia, and parts of southern Europe. It belongs to the large Teucrium genus, which includes over 300 species, many valued for their drought resistance and ornamental use in Mediterranean gardening.

Teucrium marum is famously known for its strong effect on cats, often more intense than catnip (Nepeta cataria), hence the name "cat thyme" in English.
