Description
Dianella Coolvista is a compact, highly decorative variety within the Dianella family. It stands out for its steel-blue colour, which remains stable throughout the year, and for its tidy growth habit with narrow, upright leaves. It works very well in pots, borders and modern garden designs, especially when combined with neutral or soft-contrast plants.
History & Curiosity
Dianella has long been used in Australian landscaping for its resilience and its ability to keep its colour even in challenging conditions. The Coolvista variety was selected for its more intense blue-grey tone and its compact, structured shape, making it ideal for contemporary gardens and low-maintenance spaces.
Origin
This plant originates from Australia and New Zealand, where it naturally grows in open areas with light, well-drained soils. Its ability to adapt to wind, sun and fluctuating temperatures makes it very versatile in different climates.
Care
Dianella Coolvista needs good light to maintain its colour. It thrives in full sun or partial shade, although its blue-steel tone is stronger with more sunlight. It prefers light, well-drained soil and does not tolerate excess moisture. It is a very hardy plant and keeps its neat shape without demanding much maintenance.
Watering
Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging, as the roots do not tolerate constant moisture. It may need more regular watering during summer, while in winter its water needs decrease significantly.
Pruning
Pruning is minimal. Simply remove dry or damaged leaves to keep the plant tidy. If it starts to lose shape over the years, it can be rejuvenated by cutting the foliage back to a few centimetres above the ground in early spring, allowing it to regrow cleanly.
