Buxus sempervirens or boxwood is an evergreen shrub that belongs to the family of buxaceaceae.
The attractiveness of this plant lies in its small green leaves and compact size.
These characteristics together with its slow growth and its durability make it really used for plant sculpture.
It is resistant to cold and much less intense heat or exposure to cold and strong winds.
In case of snow, we will try to clean the plant as much as possible, to avoid leaves burnt and damaged branches.
In warm areas buxus is best if we place it in semi-shade and in cool places.
Plant it in slightly acidic soil, and always well-drained.
In areas where humidity and temperature are high there is a risk of fungi appearing, mainly phytophtora cinnamomi.
In these cases it is essential to perform two preventive treatments against the disease, one in spring and one in autumn.
During the spring we will add a good layer of substrate or mulch to rejuvenate the earth. We can also fertilize with special fertilizer for green plants.
As for pests, buxus can be attacked by red spider, when the environment is too dry and hot.
Try to clean the plant with the pressure hose frequently to keep it clean and avoid these pests as much as possible.
