Description:

Mentha spicata or Spearmint is a perennial rhizomatous plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Originating from Mediterranean regions, it captivates with its unmistakable freshness and aroma.

Origin:

Spearmint thrives in a wide range of climates, from warm to cool. It develops optimally in cooler climates during planting periods from March to June and/or August to September. In warmer climates, planting is recommended from February to June and/or August to November.

Care:

To ensure its optimal development, it's essential to prepare clayey soil with excellent drainage. However, Spearmint demonstrates its versatility by adapting to various soil types. When planting, it's recommended to maintain a 30 cm spacing between plants and 50 cm between rows.

Caring for this plant requires special attention during summer, with abundant watering. Using substrate enriched with mulch or compost ensures vigorous and healthy growth. Given its invasive nature, it's advisable to transplant it annually to control its spread.

To maintain its vitality, it's essential to fertilize it in spring with an organic fertilizer or one specifically for aromatic plants. However, it's important to avoid excess moisture in the soil to prevent pests such as aphids and caterpillars, as well as diseases such as mildew or rust.

At Viveros González, we are committed to providing our customers with the best care practices so they can enjoy the incomparable freshness and aroma of Spearmint in their home or garden.
