Spathiphyllum is a genus of plants comprising about 52 classified varieties belonging to the Araceae family. It is a fairly hardy, long-flowering plant that renews itself annually.

Location and Temperature:

For it to thrive properly, Spathiphyllum should be placed in a shady spot, even intense shade in summer. It is important to ensure a temperature of no less than 18ºC and to avoid exposing it to sudden changes in temperature or draughts.

Soil and fertilisation:

It is recommended to plant it in loose, nutrient-rich soil. In addition, it is important to fertilise with houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer, without overdoing it to avoid burning its leaves.

Care and Maintenance:

It is important to cut the flower from its base when it fades and to keep its leaves clean. Spathiphyllum likes humidity both in the soil - without waterlogging - and in the environment, so its leaves can be sprayed with water, taking care not to get its flowers wet. A lack of water can cause the flowers to languish. In winter, it is necessary to reduce watering.

Pests and diseases:

This plant can suffer from pests such as red spider mite in hot, dry environments. Also, its leaves can blacken from over-watering.
