Description
The Echeveria Verrugas is a fascinating and unique succulent, known for its thick, textured leaves covered with small bumps resembling warts, which is how it earned its name. These green and gray-toned leaves form a compact rosette, reaching 10 to 20 cm in diameter. During blooming season, it produces flower stalks with small pink or orange flowers.
Origin and History
This variety is native to Mexico, where Echeverias have a long history as ornamental plants. The Verrugas stands out for its unusual and eye-catching appearance, making it highly prized by succulent collectors and enthusiasts of exotic plants. It showcases the incredible diversity and adaptability of the Echeveria genus.
Care
Light: Requires bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight in the early morning or late afternoon but should be protected from strong midday sun, especially in hot climates.
Soil: Prefers well-draining soil, such as a cactus and succulent mix.
Temperature: Thrives in warm climates but cannot tolerate temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F).
Humidity: Does not like excessive humidity. Keep it in well-ventilated areas to prevent fungal issues or rot.
Watering
Water only when the soil is completely dry. In summer, it may need watering weekly, while in winter, watering should be reduced to once every three to four weeks. Avoid letting water pool in the rosette center or on the leaves, as this can cause damage.
Pruning
Pruning is not essential but recommended to remove dry or damaged leaves, keeping the plant healthy and tidy. Once the flower stalks have finished blooming, they can be cut off to encourage new leaf growth. Healthy leaves can be used for propagation to grow new plants.
Fun Facts
The textured surface of its leaves makes it a standout among succulents, perfect for collectors and displays.
Its name comes from the wart-like bumps that adorn its leaves, giving it a distinct and exotic look compared to other Echeverias.
It is highly resilient and easy to care for, making it ideal for beginners and plant lovers seeking unconventional designs.
