Begonia Non Stop
Description
Begonia Non Stop is a tuberous begonia highly valued for its continuous and abundant flowering. It produces large, double, showy blooms in a wide range of colours, including red, pink, yellow, orange, white and bicolour varieties. The plant has a compact, tidy growth habit with fleshy, deep-green leaves, making it ideal for pots, planters and sheltered terraces.
Origin
It belongs to the group of tuberous begonias, which originate from tropical and subtropical regions of South America, particularly mountainous areas with mild and humid climates.
History
The Non Stop series was developed through horticultural breeding to achieve uninterrupted flowering, larger blooms and more uniform, resilient plants. Thanks to these improvements, it has become one of the most popular begonias for ornamental gardening and decorative outdoor use.
Curiosity
The name Non Stop refers to its ability to flower continuously from spring until well into autumn, provided it is grown under suitable light, watering and temperature conditions.
Care
It prefers bright locations without direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours of the day. It tolerates partial shade and benefits from sheltered positions protected from strong wind and heavy rain. The ideal temperature range is between 15 and 25 °C. It is sensitive to cold and does not tolerate frost.
Watering
Water regularly and moderately, keeping the substrate slightly moist at all times. Avoid waterlogging, as the tuber is prone to rot. Water directly onto the soil, avoiding wetting the leaves and flowers.
Pruning
No real pruning is required. Simply remove faded flowers and dry leaves to encourage prolonged blooming and keep the plant healthy. At the end of the season, if grown as a tuberous plant, the aerial part can be allowed to die back so the tuber can be stored.
