Dracaena deremensis (Dracaena deremensis) is an easy to grow houseplant.

It is a plant that does not accept direct sun, although it needs intense light.

The foliage should be sprayed from time to time. Draughts, sudden jumps in temperature and changes of location should be avoided as they have a negative effect on the plant.

Watering should be done once or twice a week during the summer, avoiding waterlogging. During the winter season it is advisable to reduce watering to once a week.

Excess water causes the leaves to become limp and brown. Fertilise with a green houseplant fertiliser once a fortnight.

Various growing problems can occur with Dracaena deremensis such as brown tips which is due to a lack of moisture. This can be solved by frequent spraying.

If the leaves fall off or rot, it is because it is suffering from too much cold and humidity. Place it in a warmer environment.

It is normal for the lower old leaves to yellow and fall off, leaving the trunk bare.

Pests that can affect Dracaena deremensis are red spider mite, thrips and scale insects.

The plant is propagated by head layering in July, when the lower part of the stem is bare of leaves. Stem cuttings, while still tender, root easily if placed in water for several days.

Another possibility is to take the ends of the stems with two pairs of leaves and root them in moist peat. In this case, you should aim for a constant temperature of between 22°C and 24°C.
