- Spines: Small, yellowish or light brown, distributed along the ribs.

Origin and History

- Origin:Native to South America, particularly Brazil and Argentina.

- History: While not common in the wild, it has gained popularity in horticulture due to its unusual appearance. The spiral form is believed to be a natural mutation that gardeners and enthusiasts have propagated.

Fun Facts

1. The spiral pattern doesn’t appear at birth; it develops as the plant grows.

2. Each plant spirals either to the right or left, a trait determined by its genetics.

3. Under ideal conditions, it may produce large, fragrant white flowers that bloom at night, although flowering is rare in cultivation.

4. Its unique shape makes it a highly sought-after ornamental plant.

Care

- Light

Requires bright, direct sunlight for several hours a day but can tolerate partial shade.

- Soil

Should be planted in well-draining cactus soil, ideally a mix of coarse sand, perlite, and light potting soil.

- Temperature

Thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 20 and 30°C (68-86°F). It does not tolerate frost and should be protected when temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F).

- Watering

- Water moderately, ensuring the soil dries out completely between waterings.

- Minimize watering during winter when the plant enters dormancy.

Fertilizer

Apply a cactus-specific fertilizer once a month during spring and summer, diluted to avoid over-fertilizing.

Pruning

Does not require pruning, but damaged or dead spines or parts can be carefully removed with clean tools if necessary.

Propagation

Can be propagated through stem cuttings. Allow the cuttings to heal for a few days before planting them in dry soil.

The Spiral Cactus is a visually stunning addition to any plant collection, thanks to its geometric design and its ability to become the centerpiece of any space.
