It is an ideal plant for Mediterranean gardens and dry landscapes.
Origin
Native to the Mediterranean basin, particularly Southern Europe and North Africa, where it naturally grows in poor, sunny soils.
History
Traditionally used in Mediterranean gardening for its resilience and showy flowering. In the past, its fibres were used to produce ropes and rustic textiles.
Curiosity
It is extremely tolerant to drought and heat. Its flowers release a distinctive sweet fragrance that attracts pollinators.
Care
Requires full sun to flower abundantly. Adapts well to poor, sandy or rocky soils, provided drainage is excellent. Does not tolerate waterlogging.
