Acalypha wilkesiana or "copperleaf shrub" is a perennial or semi-perennial plant, which belongs to the euphorbiaceae family.

Although it is a perennial plant it suffers  with low temperatures, or with the lack of water.

To intensify the brilliant colour of its leaves, place it in a sunny or bright area.
Needs rich soil with good drainage.

Prune Acalypha wilkesiana at the beginning of spring:

- to control growth as it is quite vigorous.

- to provide a nice shape.

- in the case that it has suffered during the winter due to low temperatures.

- to encourage its strength and shine of the leaves.

Copperleaf shrub can be affected by  mites, when the envirorment is dry and warm, aphids, or mealy bugs.

Clean de plant with water to pressure to avoid as much as possible this type of pests.

There are plenty of cultivars of Acalypha Wilkesiana with different shapes and colours of leaves.

It's a plant for warm areas. Suffers with the cold, so it should be trimmed in spring if it has suffered during the winter.
